Abstract
Modelling has proved successful in assisting the understanding and development of low pressure discharges for a number of purposes. Here, the author describes how this provides the promise of application to UV sources for sterilisation. In order to achieve this goal, however, it will be necessary to address the particular problems facing each application, in order to determine the benefits which might be gained from the introduction of new technology
