Abstract :
A case study on the application of an integrated tool on a package shipping facility of the United Parcel Service (UPS) is presented. This tool uses an integrated set of five software packages: LOTUS, MANUPLAN, SIMSTARTER, SIMAN, and CINEMA. These packages work as an integrated tool which takes a design idea from a rough cut stochastic analysis to a highly accurate real-world simulation. The tool made it possible to quickly develop a computer model which represents the facility very accurately. The tool was particularly useful in finding optimal planning (manning and overtime) under fluctuating seasonal and economic demand
