Abstract :
This paper presents the design, development, and user evaluation of a wearable dichoptic display system. Such system consists of a joint stereo camera-head mounted display (HMD) that streams non-correspondent live video simultaneously to each eye. With this device we intend to identify specific constrains of human stereo vision such as the minimum conditions for interocular distance and binocular color rivalry. We also explore the possibility of tele-operation and tele-manipulation with a dichoptic presentation of the environment. Results obtained point to important considerations for the design of stereoscopic tele-operation systems.
