Abstract
Some basics of fractal geometry are explained. Two methods for the measurement of the fractal dimension of planar curves are discussed. We present the results of applying these procedures to a number of samples of handwriting, given both in dynamic form (i.e. as time functions representing the pen movements) and in static form. An attempt to explain the fractal appearance of handwriting by means of a simple model of the writing mechanism is included
