Abstract :
The following topics are dealt with: AC drive technology for locomotives; development of a dual-mode locomotive; tractive power supply for the German Federal Railway´s 400-km/h runs; safety and productivity improvement of railroad operations by advanced train control systems; applications and economic justification for onboard locomotive computers; the RailTec system for extending bolted-rail life; technological advances in railroads´ work-order reporting systems; and SCAN, a decision support system for railroad scheduling.
