Abstract
A shared aperture dual-aperture coupled rectangular microstrip antenna element suitable for very small aperture terminal (VSAT) perturbed by circular patterned uniform photonic bandgap structures (UPBGS) is investigated to see the improvement of matching at two ports of VSAT antenna without sacrificing required 10 dB return loss bandwidth (RL-BW) and isolation between two ports. The effect of inclusion of UPBGS on patch layer as well as slot and patch layers (double layers) have been observed to improve the matching at transmitting and received terminals of VSAT antenna. It can be seen that the inclusion of PBGS improves the matching. Double-layered UPBGS provide best matching.
