Abstract :
COACH, a computer assisted wheelchair for handicapped people, is designed to assist its user to move in an every day environment, equipped with an embedded computer and data sensors. We tried to avoid the solutions that were too `high-tech´ in order to produce a representative prototype. For this reason the regular POIRIER electric wheelchair is used. The computer used is a simple PC, and the proximity sensors implemented are standard infrared and ultrasonic sensors
