Abstract :
Presents the utilization of remote sensing data and techniques in crop classification in Al-Kharj area within the central region of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Landsat TM digital data was used in the classification techniques. Ten classes were observed. Some difficulties, such as mixing and overlapping of crop differentiation were encountered, however these problems were eliminated by the statistical averaging of training areas in different seasons (different Landsat TM data). A geographic information system was used to some extent to produce maps and to determine the location of farms in the study area. The results of this study can provide on economic means to apply remote sensing data for agriculture management. A further study is recommended for follow up work to improve classification and for the irrigation management in the arid region
