Abstract
Field emission from the triple-junction of metal-dielectric-vacuum is theoretically investigated. Using a two-dimensional model of the junction, we have found that the electric field F becomes enhanced if the angular dielectric portion is larger than the vacuum. The enhanced F yields the strong enhancement of the field emission from the triple junction. This implies the possibility that the triple junction can be exploited as the new type of cold cathode.
