Abstract
This paper focuses on the experimental validation of the Reliable Aeronautical Services Protocol (RASP), proposed as transport protocol candidate for future aeronautical communications in replacement of TCP- and UDP-based protocols. The protocol has been implemented in the Linux operating system and the performance evaluation was carried out in comparison with TCP New Reno and some other TCP enhancements. The test campaigns demonstrated the benefits of RASP over TCP in terms of data delivery delay and efficiency of recovery functions, thus motivating the implementation of RASP in real aeronautical environments.
