Abstract
Of the three fast-growing fields which emerged from electronics-telecommunications, data processing and media-telecommunications is the one now playing the strongest unifying role in Europe. Continuous development in telecommunications is primarily the result of two driving forces: user needs; and technical advances in equipment. When comparing Eastern and Western Europe, the social and economic impact of telecommunications stands out clearly
