Abstract
Future medical imaging systems will employ the full range of ASIC technologies, from programmable logic to full custom mixed analog/digital. The strategies used to identify appropriate applications for ASICs, the tradeoffs between the various technologies (cost, production volume, performance, and reliability), and the integration of the various ASIC design methodologies into the existing design process are discussed
