Abstract :
We propose a multimedia data modeling scheme for the MPEG-2 video stream, which supports QoS adaptive delivery over heterogeneous network environments, like the Internet. The topics on QoS adaptation for multimedia networking are very important, since the networking environment of the Internet is very heterogeneous and varied. QoS adaptation may be considered in two aspects: the transport aspect and the payload aspect. Our approach is based on the payload aspect, in which the data rate of the payload is proactively adjusted. An MPEG-2 video stream is split into a set of scalable media objects groups, we call SMOG (scalable media objects group), in terms of the picture type and the amount of DCT coefficient. The portion of the scalable media objects is selectively transmitted to adapt the QoS requirement. This framework can satisfy the various and dynamic QoS requirements on bandwidth, even though the clients share a multipoint session. This scheme can be useful for multimedia streaming application, such a like Web-server or a video-on-demand server
