Abstract :
The system to measure very small optical birefringence such as for an opticaI data storage disk and thin films is described. As the optical system utilizes a photo elastic modulator, measured data includes not only the accurate value of retardation but also a direction of fast axis of retardation. Some of its applications are discussed.
