Abstract
Sensor positioning has an important influence on the performance of array processing. The main contributions of the paper are the proposal of criteria to evaluate and to optimize the performance of an array of sensors through its geometric configuration, the number and the positions of the sensors. Each criterion evaluates the performance of the array for some applications, particularly for beamforming and source localization. The simulation results show that the criteria are related, and allow proper optimization of the array configuration
