  • Abstract
    The Sampled Matrix and Applebaum Howells methods of adaptive sidelobe jamming suppression for radar systems are analyzed. The effects of maneuvering jammers on the cancellation ratios, using adaptive processors were determined by computer simulation. Plots of cancellation ratio degradation versus time are also presented. The results indicate that optimum weighting of adaptive filters yields significant improvements for received beam pattern configurations. Noise attenuation in the jammer vicinity is suppressed by greater than 80 dB, relative to the main lobe peak, with a corresponding increase in energy output for target isolation, as confirmed by an evaluation of beam patterns. The Sampled Matrix method also provides a higher cancellation ratio, with a minimal number of samples, due to the rapid convergence rate and use of noniterative procedures.
