Abstract
Discrete coefficient digital filter design with sum or difference of two powers of two coefficients requires multiple runs of an optimization routine starting from different filter gains. A new quantization quality measure to improve the accuracy in the selection of the initial gain is introduced. The optimization is performed by simulated annealing. Peculiar features of the method to shorten the design time are presented. Design examples to illustrate the reliability of the measure are given
