  • Abstract
In 2008, Hangzhou City, China initiated a public bicycle transportation program, and thus an effective information system was much need. We designed and implemented a Google Maps-based information system for the public bicycle transportation program. The visualized information system dynamically displays the locations of the bike rental sites, and the availabilities of bikes and bike parking spots for bike renters and management staff of the program, which has brought a great convenience to locals and tourists, and added a drastic efficiency to the bicycle rental system. With such an effective information system, the public bicycle transportation program has attracted more and more bike users, exhibiting its promising role in reducing the burden of metropolitan traffics and in controlling city air pollutions as well.
