Abstract :
In an attempt to develop a new method for interstitial thermal therapy, we developed an efficient system that enables to transmit high intensity ultrasound excited by a transducer with a large diameter to a flexible transmission line, and to emit the ultrasound from the line to tissue. The conversion efficiency for the ultrasound by the applicator in a shape of a capsule was found to be around 45-90%. The merit of the system is that this system can be applied to the use of endoscopic procedures, and no matching layer that can be damaged by high intensity ultrasound is used. We named this method SoFT (sono-fiber therapy).
