Abstract
This paper considers the approximation of the continuous wavelet transform (CWT) for band-limited signals. We present a digital filter design technique to approximate the CWT on arbitrary lattices of points in the phase plane. Using compactly supported wavelets and smoothing functions (which approximate the sinπt/πt scaling function), FIR filters are designed to compute the samples of the CWT directly from the sampled input data. This technique is compared to the discrete wavelet transform algorithm
