Abstract
This paper discusses about the effects of cogging torque due to the amount of stator slot present in a typical permanent magnet generator using finite element analysis. All parameters other than stator slot number are kept at a constant to extract the cogging torque waveform on each run of the simulation using the weighted stress tensor method. The design of the generator itself is also kept at a basic design to decrease the amount of variables occurring in this experiment. From the results obtained, cogging torque suffers a significant reduction along with the increase in amount of stator slot in the generator.
