Abstract :
Three centuries ago, Newton brought forth his principia which furnished the physical underpinnings for the first industrial revolution. Then at the outset of our own century, Whitehead and Russell, in a second principia, supplied the logical foundations supporting a second industrial revolution in communication, computing and control. Now we require yet another principia, to foster an emergent third revolutionary epoch, wherein a rich variety of ions and other reactive molecules will augment our mere electrons, holes and photons so that catalysis ranks with conductance and capacitance, and enzymics melds gracefully with electronics
