Abstract :
Measurements of the frequency dependence of ultrasonic absorption in dilute aqueous solutions of bacitracin A from 140 kHz to 310 MHz are reported. An estimate of the contribution of conformational fluctuations to the high-frequency ultrasonic absorption, based on the frequency spectrum of volume fluctuations deduced from a molecular-dynamics simulation of bacitracin, is reported and discussed. It is concluded that models in which the solvent is ignored or represented as a viscous continuum do not adequately account for the relaxation spectrum
