Abstract :
ATM, (asynchronous transfer mode) technologies, is the key underlying networking protocol for B-ISDN (broadband integrated services digital network). The author identifies the major advantages of ATM that make it suitable for supporting a very wide range of applications with diverse traffic characteristics and communications requirements that include bandwidth, delay constraints and error sensitivity.<>
