Abstract :
The reference heavy-lift launch vehicle (Ares V) for NASA´s Constellation Program served as the Point of Departure for Mars Design Reference Architecture 5.0 (DRA 5.0). The Ares V vehicle consists of two 5-segment reusable solid rocket boosters, a Core Stage with five liquid oxygen/liquid hydrogen engines, and a combination upper stage and Earth Departure Stage (EDS) powered by one liquid oxygen/liquid hydrogen engine.
