Integration of satellites in the ATM cloud

In this paper the author examines the potential role of satellite transmission in an ATM network from a global operator´s perspective. The primary differences and challenges associated with satellite transmission of ATM versus wireline transmission are presented. The commercial drivers are outlined for the need for complementary satellite based adjunct to existing and future terrestrial wireline and wireless ATM networks.
