Abstract :
The measurement of cross-stream potential (voltage difference) using a submarine cable that makes seawater contact at opposite sides of the stream is an inexpensive method for monitoring transport of the Florida Current. Theory, techniques, and certain experiments applied to this type of current measurement for eliminating the geomagnetic noise, a major obstacle to this method in the past, and for estimating the effect of electric current flow are presented here in summary.
