Abstract :
High altitude platforms (HAPs) are one of the most promising alternative infrastructures for realizing next generation wireless networks. Considering a HAP-based communications system, this paper investigates the capacity of spatially and temporally correlated multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels achieved with uniform linear arrays (ULAs). In particular, a recently proposed three-dimensional (3-D) reference channel model for HAPs is utilized. Various parameters, such as the elevation angle of the platform, the array configuration, the user mobility, and the 3-D non-uniform distribution of the scatterers are considered. The numerical results demonstrate the effect of these parameters on the channel capacity.
