Abstract :
A new multi-rate time switch algorithm capable of switching any kind of Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) multiplexing elements such as VC-11s, VC-12s, and VC-3s is presented. The algorithm controls the switching period adaptively on a real-time basis. A new pointer processing algorithm which ensures that pointers which are identical prior to processing remain identical after processing is described. A digital cross-connect system using the new signal-processing is introduced
