Abstract :
New 2/3-rate convolutional codes for 8-ary continuous-phase frequency shift keying (CPFSK) with modulation indices h = 1/8, 1/4, 3/8 nd 1/2 are presented. The design of these coded CPFSK schemes is based on the continuous-phase modulation (CPM) decomposition technique. It is shown that some of the presented codes achieve 2 to 3 dB of gain in minimum Euclidean distance over the best codes found by the conventional optimization technique
