Abstract :
Avionics Systems Architecture (ASA) plays a decisive role in the mission effectiveness of today´s combat aircraft.12 Airborne Fire Control Radar (FCR) being its most critical element has grown in importance and complexity and has surpassed the airframe / engine systems in terms of contribution to overall mission effectiveness and cost. However, its maintainability, reliability and life cycle cost have remained a challenge for maintenance managers. This research is aimed at analyzing the defects / failures of a FCR System. The analysis is based on the data collected over two years and findings established from comparative analysis of its different subsystems and sub-subsystems. The results are envisaged to be important for maintenance crew and decision makers. These may also be helpful in forecasting system spares requirement and predicting maintenance costs of the FCR system.
