Abstract :
The object of this paper is to explore the attributes of a PWM inverter drive using the background of the theory of chaos and chaotic systems: to determine if the described hysteresis band controlled system is indeed chaotic; some remarkable simulation results appear to encourage these exciting opening steps. In attempting to address this question, the author believes that way is now clear for the introduction of the theory of chaos; currently on the leading edge of science, into the field of power electronics. AC motor drives fed by voltage source inverters furnished with a closed-loop current controlled (CC) PWM, utilizing a special hysteresis band control, offer the practical basis for the investigation given in the paper. This is, very simply, because in such a case, the stator current vector behaves in an apparently random manner in the hysteresis band closely following the typical behaviour of chaotic systems
