Abstract
As the development of IT, information system (IS) become more and more important for commercial use in an Organization. Two models-Nolan´s Stages of Growth Model and Three-Era Model are used to introduce how IS has changed and been used within an Organization. Then, McFarland´s Strategic Grid which is a powerful tool for management to appraise the importance and the potential opportunities of IS is discussed. In conclusion, the changes of the structure of IS departments significantly influence the success of IS in an Organization.
