Abstract
Mention “photovoltaics” and “economic” in the same breath and, assuming you get any response at all, it will probably be one of ironic laughter. Suggestions that power from the Sun can be at all cost-effective-particularly as far North as the UK-are, more often than not, greeted with suspicion, if not scepticism. By presenting an economic assessment of PV power generation, the author describes how PV is already being used as a cost-effective supply for a variety of low-power applications-even in the UK-and that the number of economic applications is increasing year after year
