Abstract :
The Engineering College of Lusiada University Center has a new Biomedical Engineering Program conceived and developed by the coordinating team. It is a new kind of program implemented in Brazil and it is in accordance with the new education paradigm preached at the end of the last Century. The goal of this new program is to form professionals of biomedical engineering that possess a strong biomedical basis with a full formation in electrical and computer engineering, besides a solid theoretical knowledge of management, economy and law. It is a project that implies a different kind of approach, which has been named "challenge cycle". It is basically the inclusion of extra classes of courses specially selected to stimulate the students to develop new skills. It is important to mention that Lusiada University Center has an agreement with the Brazilian "Genome Project " that gives the students full access to the database of this important project.
