Abstract
The paper describes a new method to manage complex spatial knowledge in an expert system for cartographic problem solving. The proposed method is based on a new fuzzy set segmentation technique, using a level set representation for fuzzy region in an image of certainty factor. The authors propose a hierarchical structure to represent and store a fuzzy region by polygon regions coded in a vector form which allows the system to compute geometric and topologic attributes of fuzzy region.
