Abstract
A method to process a vibroseis vertical seismic profile (VSP) borehole signal in the time-frequency plane by using the cross Wigner-Ville distribution (XWVD) is presented. The resultant method is a mathematically robust extension of existing traditional techniques which allows for the attenuation of undesirable components and time-variant spectral compensation; qualities which are all difficult to achieve. The method shows that a time-frequency processing of vibroseis seismic data can be performed while maintaining the mathematical purity of classical techniques
