Abstract
This paper presents some results from an ESA study on scanSAR processing and simulation using the system parameters defined for ASAR (Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar) which ESA plans for the ENVISAT mission. The study concentrates on selection of scanning and processing scheme to obtain image quality as good and uniform as possible. Methods for Doppler centroid estimation have been analyzed and assessed. Special attention has been devoted to image quality degradation using erroneous Doppler centroid estimates and if individual beam pointing errors are present. A scanSAR simulator and processor has been implemented and tested on real ERS-1 raw data.
