Abstract
The novel soft starter based on self-commutated device is studied in this paper. The principle of the soft starter is described and its mathematical model is given. The relation between torque pulsation and the switching point in the first cycle of the voltage applied to the stator is analyzed by simulation. The control strategy for eliminating torque pulsation is presented. Using this control strategy, the torque pulsation can be diminished and even eliminated by choosing the optimal switching point of the applied voltage. The experimental results prove that this method of controlling torque pulsation is practicable for the novel soft starter.
