  • Abstract
A class of packet switched multistage interconnection networks based on PM2I interconnection functions is considered. This class of multistage interconnection topologies, called data manipulator networks, is analyzed using a novel approach to the performance evaluation of interconnection networks that has been developed in order to explain more accurately their various properties and capabilities as well as to estimate the real costs of practical network implementation. The analysis is based on an unbuffered network model in a packet-switched environment. The influence of traffic parameters and different control structures on the network performance is discussed. The data manipulator network topology is shown to be equivalent to that of the ADM (augmented data manipulator), the IADM (inverse ADM), and the gamma interconnection networks. The proposed procedure can be readily extended to higher network dimensions and values of network parameters as well as to other multistage interconnection networks
