Abstract :
A new planar electronic steering passive array radiator (ESPAR) antenna has been proposed for wireless communication mobile terminals in this paper. In order to achieve conical elevation pattern and compact size, a hexagon patch antenna shorted by two cylindrical metal pins to its ground plane is utilized. Compared with conventional switched array antennas, this array antenna has broadband and more compact planar structure. By controlling the status of RF switches, the presented antenna provides multiple radiation pattern. The array antenna´s characteristics are analyzed by the full-wave electromagnetic simulator Ansoft HFSS v.10.0. Good characteristics have been achieved to demonstrate the performance improvement.
