Abstract
This paper introduces SEW-OSA a systems engineering workbench based on a combination and extension of state-of-the-art reference architectures centred on CIM-OSA (i.e. open systems architecture for CIM). Then, the paper describes the strategy adopted to generate Petri-nets from CIM-OSA models and to enact those models for the purpose of simulation and rapid prototyping of manufacturing systems
