Abstract
An image sequence coding scheme based on the extracted information of 3-D structure and motion is presented. The goal is to achieve efficient and high-quality visual telecommunications through the use of 3-D scene characteristics inherent in image sequences. The structure and motion of rigid and nonrigid objects are robustly estimated from the displacement vectors between frames. As an image source model in the image coding process, the 3-D information provides more efficient representations of image sequences because they are derived directly from the scene characteristics. Experimental results are given and suggest that the scheme can be a viable solution in realizing high-quality visual communications
