Abstract
Broadband, compact, stacked, probe-fed rectangular dielectric resonator antennas (DRAs) were presented. The stacked antenna principle, normally used to design broadband patch antennas, is applied to the design of broadband DRAs. A shorting conducting plate was placed on one side of the rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) volume to reduce over 50% of its size, without comprising its performance significantly. The combination of the stacked antenna principle and the application of a shorting conducting plate leads to broadband compact rectangular DRAs. Simulations confirm the validation of the design principle. Based on the principle, ultra wideband (UWB) compact stacked rectangular DRAs were successfully designed for the FCC UWB band application.
