Abstract :
Organic zeolite (CTAB-Z) was modified with cationic surfactant-cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) in this study under the following conditions: CTAB concentration 1.0% (wt%), modification temperature 25°C, modification time two hours and used to remove SO42- from water and wastewater as adsorbent. Some factors which influence the removal ratio of SO42- from water sample such as mesh size of CTAB-Z, dosage, contact adsorption time and adsorption temperature were investigated. And L9(34) orthogonal table was made in order to determine the order of the factors from their importance during SO42- removal. The results show that dosage of CTAB-Z is the uppermost factor which influence the removal of SO42- directly, adsorption temperature is secondary, and contact adsorption time is third. Meanwhile, the removal ratio of SO42- could exceed 59% when the operating conditions are as following: mesh size of CTAB-Z is 80 mesh, dosage is 20g/L, contact adsorption time is two hours and adsorption temperature is 40°C.
