Abstract :
Applications requiring Content Centric Network (CCN) in delay-tolerant, peer-to-peer, multi-hop, and infrastructure-less environments are likely to increase as the use of mobile devices continues to rise and as the need to disseminate information without knowing the name or location of the destination grows. Currently, these capabilities are provided by CCN or CCN overlays on Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET). However, the research in CCN and CCN overlays is relatively new and further improvements in several areas are needed. In this paper, we focus on message dissemination efficiency in a highly mobile environment and argue for a MANET-aware CCN algorithm. As a proof-of-concept, we prototyped the algorithm on Android smartphones using WiFi and Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR) as the illustrative mobile and MANET protocols, respectively. We also evaluated the performance of the algorithm experimentally. Our preliminary results indicate that the MANET-aware CCN overlay increases the rate of message delivery over multiple hops while preserving message transparency, albeit at a cost of additional overhead control messages.
