Abstract :
Traditional field sampling methods are expensive and inadequate to resolve continuous sediment dynamics in complex lake, due mainly to the complex interactions among optically active substances. To address this problem, MODIS images were used to map total suspended solid (TSS)concentration, a linear regression model was developed between bands combination (band3-band1) MODIS Terra500m data and in situ measurements of TSS (R=-0.835, RMSE=3.604mgl-1, n=23), this model was applied to research the MODIS satellite image on July 28, 2009, the TSS concentration thematic map of Poyang lake was retrievaled and analysed. This empirical relationship was successfully applied to the estimation of TSS concentration in Poyang lake. This study suggests that it is valid to estimate TSS value using MODIS data in Poyang lake, although some influencing factors require further study to improve the accuracy of TSS estimation.
