Abstract :
Summary form only given. When high-bit-rate optical data is generated, transmitted, or routed it can become distorted and noisy necessitating regeneration of the signal. Several fiber-based and semiconductor-optical-amplifier-based (SOA) regenerators have been proposed and studied. We have reported previously on the use of a simple SOA/fiber grating device for wavelength conversion through cross-gain/phase modulation and spectral filtering. We have demonstrated now that this technique can also be very effective in the suppression of energy fluctuations in the 1´s of an RZ optical data stream.
