Abstract
Summary form only given. Optical parametric oscillators (OPOs) have been used extensively as coherent tunable light sources because of their wide tunability and high efficiency. In OPOs, quasi-phase-matching (QPM) is an alternative to conventional birefringent phase-matching. Periodically poled LiNbO/sub 3/ (PPLN) is widely used in QPM because of its large nonlinear coefficients, wide transparent range, and desirable phase-matching characteristics. The design of PPLN is not limited to a single grating period, so that it is possible to fabricate complicated structures for specialized phase matching using lithographic masks. We report on the operation of a dual signal-wave (DSW) QPM-OPO with cascade gratings.
