Abstract
It is pointed out that engineering information consists of more than the formal literature. By building on the information sources that are most frequently used by practicing engineers, librarians and faculty can provide a base for information literacy. It is further pointed out that, by incorporating a variety of formats in the development of this base, students can learn basic principles that apply to all formats they will encounter in their careers
